Essential Knowledge and Skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise all maintenance personnel.

Assist maintenance personnel in solving maintenance related problems and/or new projects, with minimum interruption to production. This includes the joint decision with senior management whether to take equipment off production or proceed with temporary measures.

Estimate, schedule, and execute the preventative maintenance program for all equipment.

Source all parts and components required for equipment maintenance and improvement.

Actively participate in the design, development, and/or implementation of latest technologies to improve productivity and/or quality.

Perform all maintenance and repair work in either plant or grounds.

Review daily production schedules and instruct operators in job set-up.

Document all work orders in the MVP system on a daily basis.

Oversee all maintenance work orders and keep up to date with all required paperwork.

Track all vacation requests for the shift and arrange coverage for all absences.

Maintain the time and attendance system, update it as required for absences and vacation.

Prepare a list of all problems encountered during the shift and other necessary reports.

Make recommendations to improve equipment efficiency and cost reduction. This includes manufacturing, repair and installation of parts, components, services and equipment.

Ensure all maintenance personnel are in compliance to all health and safety rules and housekeeping principles.

In the event of an accident assist with administration of first aid. Assist with the compilation of accident and incident reports, including WSIB Form 7.

Assist the manager in creating and monitoring employee return to work plans.

Assist the manager in new hire orientations. This includes instructing and training new employees.

Assist the manager in monitoring employee performance. This includes employee problem solving ability, safety behaviors, and work habits. Assist in the completion of employee appraisals as required.

Education and Experience:

Minimum one year of experience in a leadhand position in a manufacturing environment.

A license in the trades is an asset (i.e. Electrician, Millwright).

Good knowledge of electrical basics and PLCs.

Good knowledge of press operation where applicable.

Knowledge of the OHSA.

Ability to coach, counsel, discipline, and motivate employees as required.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Excellent problem solving ability.
